Cytranet CTO Doug Roberts on Booming Cloud and AI Demand and Why It Is Good News for Business Connectivity

The numbers coming out of the technology sector this week are hard to ignore. A leading cloud provider’s chief executive told investors on Friday that the company’s computing capacity is largely sold out through 2027, with significant customer commitments stretching into 2028. A major Wall Street research team estimated in a note the same day that global data center spending will reach about one trillion dollars in 2026 and more than double to roughly 2.1 trillion dollars by 2028. For Doug Roberts, Manager and Chief Technology Officer of Cytranet, the headlines are far more than a financial story. They are a very encouraging sign for every business and government agency that depends on a fast, dependable connection.

“When demand for cloud and AI capacity grows like this, it tells you something wonderful about where our economy is heading,” Roberts said. “Organizations of every size are putting more of their daily work into the cloud, and that raises the importance of the connection that gets them there. I find that exciting, because it is exactly the work we have been doing at Cytranet for years.”

What the new wave of investment really means

Roberts is quick to note that the glamorous part of the story is the buildings full of servers, but the part that matters most to customers is the path between those buildings and the people who use them. According to trade press coverage this month, the industry is also busy with the less visible work of connecting everything together, including new fiber routes and landing stations, additional metro fiber acquisitions, and fresh upgrades to long-haul networks. A major data center operator, for example, has announced plans for a new cable landing station in Los Angeles, and a regional fiber provider recently agreed to take over an enterprise fiber footprint in the New York and New Jersey area.

“Every one of those announcements is another strand of good news,” Roberts said. “More fiber in more places means more choice, and more choice means better service and healthier competition. A business in Las Vegas, Phoenix, Dallas, or Chicago benefits from that momentum just as much as a business anywhere else.”

Why a strong connection matters more than ever

As cloud tools and artificial intelligence applications become part of ordinary workdays, the demands placed on a company’s network keep rising. Video meetings, cloud phone systems, shared databases, and AI assistants all depend on a connection that is fast, steady, and ready to grow. Roberts said that is why he encourages customers to think about their network as a foundation rather than a utility bill.

“Our customers do not ask us for a certain number of megabits for the sake of it,” he said. “They ask whether the phones will ring, whether the cloud will load, and whether their team can work without interruption. Good internet today means fiber, resilience, and room to grow, and the more the world leans on the cloud, the more true that becomes.”

Cytranet is a Las Vegas based provider of fiber optic internet, voice, and data services for business, government, and enterprise customers across the country. The company operates data centers in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Dallas, and Chicago, and customers can order services at any of those locations or from anywhere in the nation. Roberts said that nationwide reach is a real advantage when demand surges. “Having several data centers in different parts of the country gives us flexibility. Calls and data can be handled in more than one place, and that is a comfort to the organizations that count on us.”

Practical steps for organizations planning ahead

Roberts shared a few simple ideas for business owners and technology leaders who want to take advantage of the moment instead of simply watching it go by. First, he suggests taking a fresh look at current internet capacity and asking whether it will still be comfortable when cloud and AI usage doubles. Second, he recommends considering a second path for important traffic. A backup or bonded connection from a different route can keep a team productive if one link ever has trouble. Third, he encourages organizations to review how their voice service is delivered, since cloud calling is one of the first things employees notice when a network is not keeping up.

“None of this has to be complicated,” Roberts said. “It starts with a friendly conversation about what you do today and where you want to be in two or three years. We would much rather help a customer plan ahead than rush to fix a problem later.”

A hopeful outlook for local and national businesses

Looking ahead, Roberts expects the coming years to bring faster networks, more competition, and more practical tools for organizations that are ready to use them. He also believes smaller and mid-sized companies stand to gain a great deal. “Capacity that once felt reserved for the largest enterprises is steadily becoming available to everyone,” he said. “That levels the playing field, and I am happy to see it. A good local business with a great connection can compete with anyone.”

Businesses, government agencies, and enterprise teams that would like to talk through their connectivity plans can reach out to Cytranet to explore fiber internet, voice, bonded internet, and managed IT options. Roberts said the Cytranet team is always glad to hear what customers are working toward. “The future of the network looks bright,” he said, “and we are eager to help our customers be part of it.”
